Here is one example of such application, in which we validated the
classification of an interface of Subtilisin Carlsberg with Eglin C,
represented in pink and red. This complex is known to belong to a
functional family of serine protease with inhibitor. In our pilot
dataset the cluster of this functional family was by a member of a
trypsin fold. In spite of the structural differences between the
trypsin and subtilisin folds, the representative of the cluster of
serine proteases was the top ranking and the interface was correctly
classified to belong to the functional family of serine protease with
inhibitor. As can be seen the alignment calculated by I2I-SiteEngine
provides a good superimposition of the catalytic residues of the two
proteins, which shows the correctness of the solution.
